Colourful Installations by Quintessenz

WORDS Mary Garner

Quintessenz is a Berlin- and Hanover-based artistic duo, made up of Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic, who combine installation, digital imagery, textiles and spray paint to create colourful works of art.

The duo, who has history working with chromatics and graffiti, has just completed a large-scale installation for the island of Paxos’ Contemporary Art Project, running until 8 September 2018. The piece is located inside 400-year-old ruins, creating a stark contrast.

The site-specific artwork is designed with shape in mind, combined with elements from the location itself. The ruins behave as the perfect framework for the large layers of dyed and spray-painted fabric, set up to complement the light conditions of the old building.
