Nando’s Cherry Lane

WORDS Lindi Brownell Meiring

Architecture, interiors and branding firm Reddeco is behind the design of Nando’s Cherry Lane in Pretoria.

“The diverse, multi-cultural make-up of the South African demographic posed a challenge to us as designers to create a design identity which respects and appeals to all of its users,” says Reddeco.

Completed in March 2017, this is one of the company’s most recent projects. “The layout and quirky interior mimics a typical ethnic journey through a Portuguese setting with a deep appreciation for aesthetics and local design.”

For Nando’s, a long-time supporter of the local design industry, it was important that South African artists, furniture designers, product designers and crafters formed an integral part of the project. Reddeco collaborated with a range of local talent to transform the interiors of the restaurant, which showcases the signature Hinge Server by Dokter and Misses, as well as custom-designed furniture by David Krynauw, Design Peo and Woodlam.

The table-tops feature custom-made prints, while the circular bench and dining chairs were upholstered in unique printed fabrics by artist Debby van der Veer.

Nando’s Cherry Lane is located at Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, Brooklyn, Pretoria. View more of Reddeco’s projects at reddeco.co.za.
