100% Design South Africa is back for its fifth edition at Decorex Joburg 2018, to be held at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 8 – 12 August 2018.
Curators Cathy O’Cleary and Laurence Brick have divided the show into platforms that celebrate local design, from Designing in Wood, in association with VISI, to this year’s Feature Designer Andile Dyalvane (in association with Elle Decoration), 100% Apartment (in association with Condé Nast House & Garden), 100% Café (in association with House and Leisure), 100% Talent (in association with Sunday Times Lifestyle), 100% Office and The Fabric & Wallpaper Gallery.
Designing in Wood
VISI is the media partner for Designing in Wood, a brand-new addition to 100% Design South Africa, which showcases designs crafted from wood, including furniture and classic pieces created by celebrated local designers, from James Mudge, Raw Studios, Woodbender and David Krynauw to Neil Grantham, Pierre Cronje and Xavier Clarisse.
Feature Designer: Andile Dyalvane
Renowned South African ceramicist Andile Dyalvane is 100% Design South Africa’s Feature Designer of the Year. He’ll be creating 100 handcrafted bowls for the show, inspired by patterns seen in nature, as well as his own memories and spirituality.

100% Design Café
Local furniture design studio Houtlander, previously featured here, will head up the 100% Design Café, which will host a special presentation by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) on sustainable design using this natural resource.
100% Apartment
This platform will see the creation of a contemporary apartment designed and curated by Cape Town-based design studio Mother City Hardware, featured here.

100% Office
Interior designer Alice Hutton of O & Co Interiors, this year’s 100% Office Feature Designer, will be curating this section of the exhibition, presenting pieces from a range of design firms.
100% Talent
This platform will showcase up-and-coming designers, from illustrators and ceramic artists to accessory, textile and jewellery designers.
The Fabric and Wallpaper Gallery
From Robin Sprong Wallpapers and Andrea Brand to Dreamweaver Studios and Fabcote, the Fabric & Wallpaper Gallery will showcase a wide range of textiles and wallcoverings from their respective collections.

Apart from the more than 100 displays showcased as part of 100% Design South Africa, Decorex, sponsored by Plascon, will also be celebrating its 25th year. ““It’s all about innovation and reinvention,” says Reed Exhibitions’ Portfolio Director of Design, Lifestyle and Retail Exhibitions, Sian Cullingworth. “In 1994, we were specifically a decor and design exhibition, we’ve now evolved to include new categories as they’ve emerged… ‘Plan and Build’, ‘Outdoors’, ‘DIY’, ‘Craft’ and our biggest growing sector, kitchens and bathrooms… we work hard to give the visitors what they want.”
Decorex and 100% Design South Africa runs from 8 – 12 August 2018 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, from 10am until 6pm. Tickets cost R120 for adults, R100 for students and pensioners and R20 for kids under 12. You can purchase tickets through Computicket.
