At this year’s Tendence trade fair in Frankfurt, four young talents stood out from the crowd.
Messe Frankfurt, the world’s largest trade fair organiser, has been promoting young international designers for the last 10 years, giving them a platform to showcase their talents and make business contacts. At the same time, trade fairs such as Tendence also give exhibitors the chance to recruit young designers.
Tendence 2011 proved to be fertile ground, and VISI’s Annemarie Meintjes returned home with four hot new designers on her radar.
Hanna Emelie Ernsting
In her designs, Hanna Ernsting focuses on the emotion of the user. She experiments with soft, flexible, random shapes, allowing the user to express emotions and let go. Hanna describes her design philosophy as “form follows mood”.
I fell in love with Moody – a couch with a huge, loose cover in which you can wrap yourself.

Veronika and Maximillian Hummel
M.I. Hummel Zeitgeist came up with an exciting new interpretation of the classic Hummel figurine. By renouncing the paint and dipping the figurines in black, the shapes become the focal point. This sets each figurine in a completely different light, allowing it to become a structure instead of an ornament.
The creative driving force behind the Zeitgeist range is Veronika and Maximillian Hummel, siblings and descendants of Bertha Hummel who first created the world-famous M.I. Hummel figurines.

Paula Amanda Weise
I was fascinated with Paula Weise’s modular plant pots, which bring nature back into the home. In fact, they make it possible to create a full indoor garden.
Each porous terracotta pot has a glass bowl inside that takes up as much water as the plant needs. Should the plant outgrow the pot, you can lower it – pot and all – into the earth as it’s totally biodegradable.
Pottina-Pottone is not just a sterile flowerpot, but also a self-sufficient system.
