With more than 700 entries from both established and up-and-coming designers countrywide, the BOS Design-a-Can competition finally has a winner, namely designer, street artist and musician Ofentse Letebele (one of our 40 Emerging Creatives to watch at this year’s Design Indaba Expo).
“Judging is never an easy process,” says BOS founder Grant Rushmere, “but Ofentse Letebele’s design stands out to us for its modern spin on what is essentially a very African design, and looks great as part of the BOS family.”
Inspired by 18th century Ndebele wall painting, Ofentse’s design makes South Africa the star. “One of the great things about being South African is that you don’t have to look far for inspiration,” he explains. “…I’m hoping people won’t throw it away, but rather collect and share.”

The design will be paired with a limited BOS flavour of green rooibos tea with superfruit Yuzu.
To celebrate, BOS is hosting two exhibitions, which will feature the winning design and shortlisted entries. Head to MOAD (Museum of African Design) on 16 April 2015 (tickets must be bought through MOAD) and to 6 Spin Street Gallery in Cape Town on 7 May, as part of First Thursdays.
