As part of our series on innovative international creatives shaping design today, we delve into the intuitive, detail-focused and ultra-chic style of Parisian interior designer Stéphanie Coutas.

Stéphanie Coutas, a Parisian interior designer and decorator, is known for her listening closely to her clients. But what truly sets her apart is her “sixth sense”; an intuition that guides her through every project. “When I look at a space, I ask myself if I’d be happy living there,” she says – and only then does she move forward with her design plans.

After spending 15 years in the fashion industry, Stéphanie turned her attention to her true passion: interiors. Now she meticulously oversees every aspect of her projects, from curating art collections and designing custom furniture to selecting the smallest details. Although eclectic, Stéphanie’s style can also be described as romantic and plush – she is a connoisseur of clean lines and fine craftsmanship, blending modernity with neoclassical elements.

Stéphanie’s interior design agency, SC Edition, specialises in the hyper-luxury sector, and she’s made sure to surround herself with a top team of architects, designers and decorators. She views her agency as a laboratory of ideas – a place where trends aren’t followed but created. With her team, she takes on projects of all sizes around the world, from apartments to villas, spas, restaurants and boutiques.

“Our practice encompasses all aspects of the trade,” she says. “We’re involved in every step of the project from start to finish, ensuring that our high standards are maintained throughout.”

The agency has also undertaken several popular design collaborations, including a range of original rugs created with Hong Kong brand Taï Ping, and a majestic chandelier conceptualised in partnership with Baccarat.

At the end of 2024, Stéphanie released her first full outdoor furniture collection, The Sun Experience, envisioning the pieces on pool decks, yachts and even private beaches around the world. With this range, she aimed to achieve a natural yet sophisticated aesthetic, combining burnt wood in a bamboo-like pattern with intricately intertwined rope detailing for a touch of Brutalism. The collection includes the Ella chair, handcrafted in sophisticated combinations of coloured fabrics and ropes, as well as eye-catching two- and three-seater sofas, and single and double sunbeds. We can almost imagine ourselves lounging poolside at a luxury beach resort…

Another of SC Edition’s notable recent projects is Bastide des Vignes in Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera. Stéphanie and her team were tasked with reviving a somewhat soulless old farmhouse, and transforming it into “a peaceful luxury retreat in a bucolic oasis of flowers, vines and nature”. The renovation had to meet the standards of a five-star hotel, and elegantly blend architectural authenticity with the refinement of contemporary luxury. Interesting features include the white staircase, which is both a work of art and an architectural feat, as well as the use of natural materials such as oak, rough marble, raffia and straw. | stephaniecoutas.com
