The party is in the kitchen

Designer Kelly Hoppen’s foray into kitchens speaks to how we live and entertain in the modern world.

In collaboration with British luxury furniture maker Smallbone of Devizes, award-winning British designer Kelly Hoppen has created a stunning collection of contemporary kitchens that reclaim the kitchen’s place as hub of the home.

Her main focus was to design around the way people live and entertain today. Central circular islands with concealed drawers, integrated appliances and carefully placed barstools ensure that guests can sit and sip while keeping the chef company in the stylish kitchen-come-entertainment space.

However, the sleek functionality and contemporary design are not the only attractions of these designer kitchens, they also come in a variety of colour palettes and textures. The different palettes are grounded in black, white or taupe and the unique textures include options such as oak, gloss lacquer, chain mail, granite, polished nickel, stainless steel and silver-leafed mirror glass. But most important to Kelly was that the colours and textures should be easy to layer and not appear hard and functional.

We agree with that sentiment. After all, if the party is moving to the kitchen, then functionality must be complemented by beautiful form.
