WORDS: Alma Viviers
Walls, it seems, no longer serve as just boundaries to our spaces; they represent a new frontier when it comes to engaging with our interior environment.
Imagine giving your wall a quick brush every day to reveal a completely new design?
With London-based designer, Giles Miller’s Miranda Surface Tiles, this is exactly what you can do: the wall panels are made up of thousands of tiny injection-moulded polyproplene ‘hairs’ that can be brushed in any direction to create a pattern or image of your choice.
This bold young designer has also developed a unique system of using thousands of etched brass flaps that can be brushed in various directions to manipulate the play of light on the surface.
Sculptural panels from felt
Another Londoner who knows what walls want to wear is Anne Kyyrö Quinn, who creates sculptural panels from sustainable 100% wool felt. Anne’s signature three-dimensional panels are not only visually intriguing but also work to reduce noise levels.
Then there’s Tears Off modular wallpaper from Latvian studio ZNAK, designed with a special perforated pattern that allows you to literally tear-off pieces to reveal the background surface and create a unique pattern.
