The Artist Behind SuzelleDIY: Julia Anastasopoulos

If the number of views on her YouTube channel is anything to go by, then hundreds of thousands of us are familiar with viral sensation SuzelleDIY. But not nearly as many know that Julia Anastasopoulos, the actress behind the character, is also an accomplished illustrator.

In fact, if you’ve visited Cape Town recently, you might have spotted her work already. Her sometimes-whimsical drawings can be seen on book covers through to illustrated murals at Cape Town’s Civic Centre and MyCiTi bus stations. Those who’ve visited The Book Lounge on Roeland Street might have even seen her playful line drawings, which she was commissioned to create for the children’s section.
