Tessa Sonik celebrates Ray Eames

The name of Ray Eames is always mentioned with that of her husband, Charles, for the impact they had on furniture design in the mid-twentieth century. They are best known for their contributions to architecture, industrial design and manufacturing.

But Tessa Sonik wanted to honour Ray in her own right for her talents as an artist, designer and filmmaker, so created the Ray Contract Collection to represent her special qualities. “It is both feminine and strong, evoking the colours and textures of the fifties: embossed neutral leathers, florals, teals and fabrics in red and orange – a combination considered edgy in those days,” Tessa says.

Fabric prices range from R280 to R450 per metre, with leathers from R900 per metre.
