Sustainable Design: Plane Accessories

WORDS Lindi Brownell Meiring IMAGES Kickstarter

UK-based brothers Ben and Harry Tucker are the brains behind Fallen Furniture and Plane Industries, two connected brands that make use of reclaimed aircraft parts and fabric to create new designs and accessories.

While Fallen Furniture began in 2012, Plane is the latest venture for these two talented designers. During the Fallen Furniture design process, the brothers learned “about the sheer volume of great quality, perfectly good material being sent to either the incinerator or landfill. Plane has been born to put a stop to that.” In their attempt to reduce waste, Ben and Harry take discarded seating fabric from retired aeroplanes and transform them into trendy luggage items.

Each design includes a stamp showing the journey the fabric made before it was repurposed, including number of miles flown and countries visited. It also comes with a lifetime guarantee.

The collection, which is currently featured on Kickstarter, includes phone and tablet sleeves, laptop bags, backpacks, and weekender and messenger bags.

You can pre-order your very own Plane accessory via the Kickstarter page. Find out more at planeindustries.co.uk.
