Functional fittings turn design feature with this bookshelf.
Inspired by what we saw at Salone del Mobile in Milan, we went shopping at our local hardware store. Books need a shelf, and a wall shelf needs two L-brackets to support it – as easy as that. But why conceal the brackets underneath the shelf? Flip them and make them a feature!
Turn each bracket to an upright L and screw the long leg to the wall. Then rest the shelf on top of the two short horizontal legs.
If you have more books to display, create more modules; just line them up next to or below one another.
The brackets cost R49 each, the 80 cm shelf (an off-cut) R59, and the brass screws R18,50 – for a total of only R175,50.
