Rialheim has never played it safe The South African ceramic studio is known for bold, stylish homeware and art pieces, long popular with home-decor lovers, interior designers and art collectors. And at Decorex Johannesburg 2025, the brand raised the bar with an eye-catching stand, and the launch of sculptural lamps, 3D tiles and a striking new range of breeze blocks.
Founded in 2012 by creative director Rial Visagie, Rialheim was built on the belief that South African clay could hold global relevance not just as a craft but as an art form. What began with functional gift s for community initiatives has grown into a leading voice in contemporary ceramics, blending playful design with meticulous craftsmanship. Rialheim, meaning “Rial’s home”, reflects family heritage and a spirit of welcome – and each piece brings a touch of this into your space, combining beauty with functionality.
Located on the slopes of Clairvaux Estate in Robertson, the factory is powered entirely by the sun, which brings the clay to life as artisans shape earth, fi re reveals colour, and glaze captures the light. As Rial explains, “Clay is more than a material at Rialheim – it’s a language, a storyteller, a bridge between imagination and reality.”
Rialheim’s Decorex stand was a showstopper, with sculptural walls, light streaming through patterned breeze blocks, and playful clay shapes everywhere. Rooted in African soil yet boldly inventive, it off ered a glimpse into the brand’s universe. Here’s what’s new this season – prepare to fall in love and treat yourself!
Breeze blocks
Breeze blocks are still having a major design moment, and are perfect for adding architectural detail or airflow. Rialheim’s range – from DNA and Capsule to Vision – comes in colours such as gloss white, emerald green, bronze and matte black, and is inspired by Mid-century boldness and African geometric patterns, bringing creativity to any space.
The Obsidian Collection
Rialheim’s latest chapter, the Obsidian collection, feels both ancient and modern, and introduces a technique that’s new to the brand: a hand-brushed crystal glaze. Applied in deliberate strokes, it transforms in the kiln into unique crystalline patterns. Surfaces shift from deep volcanic black to soft mineral striations, revealing secrets that can only be seen when you pause to look closer.
Mushroom table lamp
Playful yet bold, the glow of the Mushroom lamp in Obsidian resembles light through volcanic glass. More than just a lamp, it’ll give a sidetable or console a strong visual presence.
3D tiles
3D tiles add texture and dimension to surfaces. From Italian roof tiles in matte terracotta (seen in South Africa’s cutting- edge restaurants and lodges) to Woodpecker tiles in organic shapes, retro-inspired Capsule wall tiles, or the leafy Heritage 3D tiles, there’s a design for every space. | rialheim.co.za
