Raw-bots

R2-D2 move over. There are new robots in town who are soaking in the sustainable side of sci-fi.

Designed by CPUT graduate Jasper Eales, these aptly names Raw-bots might not be the high-tech humanoids Hollywood movies punt but they’re sure to start a conversation.

Made from off cuts and studio scraps Jasper began creating the Raw-bots for fun in between commissioned furniture pieces. “I had this idea to make a few random characters, after spending a day in the workshop creating them I decided that it was more fun than I had initially thought. The first day I displayed the Raw-bots I sold them all. I was amazed at the response I had to them and that’s how it began.”

The Raw-bots are sold exclusively at LIM in Cape Town, each one is an original with it’s own charming features.

A keen surfer Jasper has also created clever surfboard storage units. He’s heading off overseas this month to broaden his design horizons and when he returns we could see more of his innovative Jabba Surf Racks hit the commercial market.
