Catch Bolognese artist Raimondo Galeano’s exhibition entitled ‘Journey of Light: Galeano’s Navigators of the Cosmos’ at CIRCA on Jellicoe this May. The fact that the artist paints with light – instead of colour – makes for an interesting visual feast.
Raimondo believes that colour limits the artist, noting that it’s an illusion generated by our perception of light waves. Rather opting for luminescent powder as work material, Raimondo shows six huge portraits of great humanitarians: Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Aung San Suu Kyi, Barrak Obama, Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
In the darkness of the perfectly chosen venue, the artworks will be completely visible. However, when drenched in sunlight, they’ll look like photographic negatives.
If you’re in Johannesburg between 5 May and 5 June, we recommend you go have a look!
