WORDS Sumien Brink
Artist Lisette Forsyth’s studio was recently saved from nearly burning down. With the arrival of spring, a new creativity has blossomed from the soot, like a phoenix from the ashes. She sent these pictures to VISI’s editor Sumien Brink, who says:
When I was a fashion editor for Cosmopolitan in the 80s, I used Lisette a lot as fashion model. She was a hot favourite at the time. Last year I caught up with her, and she told me she is focussing on her art now and working from a studio in Woodstock.
A week ago she sent me these incredible pictures of her studio almost totally destroyed by fire. Lisette call it “Burnt Offerings”. I love the tragic beauty of these pictures and the fact that she is using the soot to create new artworks.
