Wow. We’re blown away by artist Paul Painting’s beautiful work, which will be on display at Salon91 in Cape Town during the next few weeks.
Paul’s preoccupations centre on portrayals of the figurative body and he’s currently interested in printmaking – specifically etching – under the tutelage of Judy Woodborne.
In using this technique, Paul favours imagery that borders on the macabre and fantastical, qualified by a vein of dark humour and tragicomedy.
Mugshots of vicious criminals rub shoulders with stuffed gorillas, and concrete dinosaurs square off against burlesque wrestlers in this solo exhibition that makes for a fantastic phantasmagoria of ill-starred misfits.
Gallery hours: Tue-Fri: 10h00 – 18h00, Sat: 10h00 – 14h00
