For those less familiar with Paul du Toit’s work, he was an award-winning South African artist renowned for his use of bold colour and free-form shapes. In addition to painting in oil and acrylic paints, he was equally recognised as a sculptor, working in several mediums, including bronze, concrete, canvas and more.

Paul du Toit (1965-2014)

Over the years, du Toit collaborated with several international brands, among them TAG Heuer and Persol. This new collaboration between Mervyn Gers and the Paul du Toit Estate revisits an artwork the artist created in 2005 for MAGIS: a painted motif on the ‘Captain Love-Tray,’ designed by Jerszey Seymour for the Italian brand. Paul painted three trays, one of which remains in the private collection of the Perazza family, owners of MAGIS, near Venice.

Now, the image has been reinterpreted on 300 hand-crafted ceramic platters, each measuring 40cm in diameter and individually numbered. The limited-edition pieces will be available from the end of October 2025, priced at R6,500 each.
