New Skinny laMinx store

Designer and illustrator Heather Moore, creator of Skinny laMinx, opened her new shop and studio yesterday in bustling Bree Street, Cape Town.

The space has had a complete makeover, transforming from a greasy scooter garage into a chic and clean store filled with eye-candy for fabric lovers.

Heather was looking for a special space that could house both shop and studio, where customers could watch the Skinny laMinx magic in action. These permeable boundaries also meant that Heather and her team could meet their customers and use the shop as a lab for testing new products and designer collaborations.

Upon first glance, the scooter repair garage left much to be desired. However, to Heather, the layout clearly offered a lovely shop front and good sized studio space in a neighborhood that’s quickly becoming one of Cape Town’s most sought-after. The skylights and old black tiles were an added bonus.

One of the display walls in the shop sports a dramatic series of solid brass pegs and steel shelves entitled “The Skinny” by design duo Pedersen + Lennard. This installation is a showcase of a brand new product developed especially for the Skinny laMinx shop.

Shoppers can expect to find the full range of Skinny laMinx tea towels, cushions, table runners, tablecloths, table napkins and stationery as well as retail fabric sales from the studio. The shop will also carry 50s-style sofas made to order by Dan Saks of Saks Corner in a range of Skinny laMinx fabrics, and Moore has plans to sell vintage Danish furniture and accessories too, in association with Space for Life.
