Jewellery designer Famke Koene has just opened a new space on Buitenkant Street in Cape Town.
Having had a shop at the Watershed at the V&A Waterfront for the past two years, Famke decided that she wanted something more. “It’s been a dream of mine for years to open my own standalone concept store,” she says. “I wanted to create a space that is different to anything seen before in Cape Town, something that would pop and draw people in.”
The design of the store was informed and inspired by the modern Memphis movement. After scouring through references, Famke had an idea of what she wanted. “I had no idea how to execute it, so Atelier Interiors came in to bring the whole thing to life and did a spectacular job.”
The store is home to not only Famke’s range of jewellery, but also House of Gozdawa fragrances, Waas skincare products and sunglasses from Retrosuperfuture. The shop also stocks “amazing foldable geometric vases from the Dutch design project, Pepe Heykoop,” adds Famke. There is also delicious coffee, croissants and free WiFi on offer.
Visit the store at 79 Buitenkant Street, Cape Town, Monday to Friday from 8am – 5pm. Keep up to date on Famke’s Facebook page.
