Professional sculptor and artist Calvin Seibert brings a modern edge to the age-old joy of building sandcastles with his contemporary castles inspired by brutalist and modernist architecture.
This American summer Calvin spent some time on the sunny shores of Rockaway Beach in Queens constructing his magically modern sandcastles. His sand sculptures rarely begin with a plan, but rather with the vague notion of wanting to create something different, which is then constantly developed by the ever-changing mash-up of ideas in his mind. Described as “organic machines that grow and expand” Calvin shares that a successful sculpture is never finished or contained and if time allowed he wouldn’t stop adding to it.
Take a look at some of his amazing designs from the past year in the gallery above.
