WORDS Michaela Stehr IMAGES Masayo Fukuda
Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda has been practicing kirie, the art of paper cutting by creating negative space in a single sheet of white paper, for over 25 years.
Her latest creation is an incredibly detailed octopus, which she deems her prized piece of 2018. This intricate art form requires intense patience and concentration, as can be seen in the ornate markings of the life-size octopus.
The web-like work, which is placed over a black background to create a striking contrast, took two months to complete.
