Artist, scenographer and designer Pierre Charpin has been named Maison&Objet‘s Designer of the Year and will be showcasing his work in a self-designed hub at their fair this January.
Paris-born to a family of artists, Pierre Charpin studied at the Bourges School of Fine Art and later merged his artistic talents with the world of design. Charpin is described by Maison&Objet as “an explorer at heart.” This is definitely reflected in the poetic, minimalist style that encompasses his clever construction of formal simplicity and various composite parts, softened by curved lines and highlighted by his distinctive chromatic themes.
Pierre has pursued a variety of high-profile commissions and material research projects over the past twenty years, as well as collaborated with some of the world’s leading brands, including the likes of Alessi, Hermès, Ligne Roset and Hay. He will be showcasing a variety of products that he has created over his career at the January fair. Products on display will include the PC Lamp that was developed over a three year period with Sebastian Wrong, a chair that is split up into various coloured blocks for Cinna and a colourful apartment refit done inside Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse.
