Kirsten Goss’s bespoke “Refuge” ring made a local appearance at Haas Collective this week before jetting off to be auctioned at an exclusive Christie’s auction in June.
On Tuesday, the 18-carat gold creation was cooed over by admirers at Cape Town design hub, Haas in the Bokaap.
“Refuge”, as its name suggests, will soon be taking refuge on the finger of a very lucky lady when it is auctioned off next month.
The ring is being auctioned to raise funds on behalf of the Wildlands Conservation Trust, raising critical awareness and funding for rhino conservation.
Taking her cue from the hues of the African bushveld, Kirsten chose yellow 18-carat gold to fashion this bespoke three-tiered ring. A reference to the dry bush grass that rhinos favour as ideal terrain, Kirsten sourced black, cognac and white diamonds as embellishment.
While the striking design is simple and conceptual, the three tiers, with their hand-carved slits, evoke a birds-eye view of a tree whose branches cast shadows over a solid white-gold figurine – resembling a white rhino – seeking refuge safely beneath.
