Kickstand furniture lets you cycle at your desk

Cycling to work is all the rage these days – it’s good for the body, good for the planet, and with fuel costs on an upward rampage, it’s good for one’s personal economy too.

The added endorphins that pump through your system as a byproduct of your morning commute might not, however, be enough to sustain that exercise high throughout the day. Enter Kickstand, a quirky furniture design company catering almost exclusively to bicyclophiles. They have created the Kickstand Desk, which allows you to cycle at work, and not just to work. If you long for the active, devil-may-care lifestyle of the urban bike courier, but can’t quite afford to give up the day job just yet, Kickstand might just be the answer to your prayers.

When your bike is under the desk and locked in a stationary position, the desktop is set on sliders that allow the top to be pushed out of the way so you can get on and off your bike, change gears or just focus on the “ride.”

According to the designers: “The one thing you’ll notice is that doing mundane tasks at your desk become much more interesting as your cadence goes up. An hour or so into your ride is when your co-workers will start watch in befuddled amusement as your acumen begins to change. Your first phone call while riding at the desk is always funny … Like everything else in life, you’ll quickly get the hang of things. Expect to find a good pace where you can balance spinning and working after the first week. Then, when you want to push it, push the desktop back and crush it.”

Just remember to keep a little energy in the tank… for the ride home, of course.
