We have one question for the Capetonians who have not yet visited the new Kartell store at De Waterkant; “why not?”
The first African single-brand store, boasts the same designer aesthetics as the other 130 flagships stores around the world and is, of course, filled with Kartell’s latest offerings too. So if you haven’t been already we suggest you get there soonest.
Extended over 146 square metres on two levels, with one display window running along the entire street side – the Cape Town store is perfect for lunchtime window-shopping.
Among the bestsellers, the new flagship store carries the iconic Louis Ghost chair by Philippe Starck, the Bookworm bookcase by Ron Arad, the Battista cart by Antonio Citterio and the Bourgie Lamp by Ferruccio Laviani. The latest additions include new pieces signed by Philippe Starck with Eugeni Quitllet, such as the Masters chair and the Magic Hole outdoor series, the new Bloom Lamp family by Ferruccio Laviani, and the Sundial bookcase by Nendo.
For 60 years Kartell has been at the forefront of Italian design. All the covetable products are made in Italy, with over 75% of sales exported to flagship stores in all corners of the globe.
Over 20 years after the first flagship store was opened in Milan, African design addicts now have a Kartell store to call their own, and after your first visit we can bet you’ll be converted to the brand’s contemporary aesthetic that favours transparency and polycarbonate materials.
Kartell has strategically collaborated with A+I Unlimited Design, the exclusive partner for South Africa. This partnership will lead to the opening of at least five new sales points over the next three years. Joburgers can expect their very own Kartell store by mid 2012.
