Homewood’s Imbiza Range

WORDS Ashraf Booley

Local furniture brand Homewood is embracing curves with its latest range, called Imbiza.

With summer upon us, what better way to set the mood than with stylish outdoor furniture? The team of artisans at local brand Homewood are experts at custom-designing and crafting contemporary furniture for both the outdoors and the indoors.

All Homewood products are made out of European white oak and Central African hardwoods, such as kiaat from sustainable plantations, and do not rely on steel structures or the like for shape or support. The range extends to smaller items for the home, including chopping boards and bread bins.

The new Homewood collection takes inspiration from our rich cultural heritage, and sees the company moving beyond clean lines and employing curvilinear forms that celebrate various African elements. The collection, which features curves and natural round edges, is aptly called Imbiza, the Zulu name for a big round pot used for brewing and storing beer.

Homewood uses the age-old method of mortise and tenon jointing. This, along with routed handle grooves and rope weaving, add visual appeal. Whereas Homewood traditionally uses wide rope in various colours for products that have woven detail, the Imbiza collection employs a more elegant, finer Danish weaving, setting it apart from the rest.
