Grohe cleans up at Red Dot Awards

The Red Dot Design Awards were brought to a glittering close last night as Grohe walked away with the coveted title of Red Dot Design Team of the Year.

The who’s-who of the international design scene met within the architecturally fascinating Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany to celebrate the winners of the acclaimed product design competition.

Each year, thousands of products are judged as part of the Red Dot Design Awards. The international jury selects outstanding achievements and uncovers trends in the process. But there is one Red Dot Award that stands out from all the others.

The Red Dot Design Team of the Year is a highly desirable annual title in the world of product design and this year, Grohe was honoured for producing beautiful products that allow the user to experience water with all of the senses.

Companies and designers do not put themselves forward for this unique award, but are nominated by the jury for consistently high product design performance. The award goes to a company that demonstrates a special far-sightedness by designing products in a way that leads to lasting success for the company.

Under the management of Paul Flowers, the Grohe designers were deemed to have achieved this feat and were rewarded for it.

“In an era of globalisation, there are times when a company has to prove itself because external circumstances require it,” explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, the initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Design Award. “And then there are times when a company proves itself by coming up with innovative solutions that nobody expected – not even insiders in the industry. Over the course of its colourful history, Grohe has experienced both, but in the past five years it has launched what can only be described as an innovation offensive, reaching a whole new level of strength in design compared with its competitors. At Grohe, design is a value driver that is given top priority.”

Grohe has been awarded various Red Dot Design Awards over the past four years, but last night marked history as Paul Flowers accepted the Radius award, the highest-ranking trophy in this major design competition.
