Elisabetta Rizzato, the creative force behind ITALIANBARK, shares her insights into the exciting colour trends she spotted at Maison&Objet and Paris Design Week, and how they will shape the world of interiors for 2024.
Whether it’s the high-contrast colour schemes that pay homage to the late ’70s and ’80s or the dreamy “digital pastels“, the colour trends forecast for 2024 are anything but boring. We delve into the creative insights of Elisabetta Rizzato, the visionary mind behind ITALIANBARK, who recently scoured Maison&Objet and Paris Design Week for the latest colour trends.
Iridescent & Gradients
Observing the rising prevalence of dynamic colour effects in interiors and design, Elisabetta attributes this trend to the influence of the phygital macro trend and the introduction of innovative materials and colour palettes. “Lots of transparencies too and colourful glass – a very different and quite opposite trend than the wabi sabi aesthetic we have been used to in the last years (that is still very popular, btw),“ she says.
Red & Pink
Despite being an unconventional colour combination, pairing red and pink was a recurring theme in Paris, showcasing its versatility when selected thoughtfully. This combination, when well-executed, exudes balance and charm.
High Contrast Color Schemes
Pattern Factory by Elizabeth Leriche showcased exhibitions rich in colours and inspirations, particularly emphasising high-contrast colour schemes. Bold combinations like black and white, striking orange, blues, greens, and rich patterns pay homage to the vibrant hues of the late ’70s and ’80s.
Pastels Go Bold
Dreamy hues, which Elisabetta had previously coined as “digital pastels“ in a trend webinar, are set to make an impact. ”The dopamine trend is still here but I think it will be definitely become softer – a very dreamy and surrealist kind of mood, still playful but not as strong as what we have seen in fashion and interiors since 2020,“ she says.
Viridian Hues
One of Elisabetta’s favourite shades from Paris Design Week and Maison&Objet was a colour between green and teal, dubbed petrol blue-viridian. This elegant and refined colour palette, reminiscent of the ocean, left a lasting impression and is expected to find its way into interior design trends for 2024.
