Get your Z’s in

Michelle Trimborn of Design Quarters takes the final letter of the alphabet as inspiration for her new table.

Made from duco-sprayed solid timber, Trimborn’s Z Table is minimal and functional- two characteristics that exemplify well-considered design. “It’s one of the simplest forms that isn’t boring. The squared ‘N’ and squared ‘O’ tables are classic shapes, but very done”, says Michelle, “and yes, simplicity is very Zen”.

Although elementary, the Z Table is versatile. You could tip it over sideways and add a piece of glass on top, which would create a small coffee table, or it can be tipped over backwards and a longer coffee table is presented. “Another option is to use two (or multiples of two) of them together vertically, on their sides or on their backs to create larger tables with a glass top,” Michelle says.

Next on Design Quarters’ list is a W Table. “Any letter can be made but we’ll only make those that meet the pricing restraint we have set,” Michelle adds. At the moment she is hoping an adventurous doctor with an eye for design will commission a row of Z Tables in incremental size gradients. We’re thinking it would make a good addition to a hypnotist’s office too.

The Z Table is available exclusively from Design Quarters and retails at a recommended price of R1 550 for the grey, white and pastel options, and R1 950 for the red, yellow, blue, black, and charcoal options
