The Outsider 2012 exhibition at the Media Mill in Johannesburg opened last night and runs until 9 September.
Aiming to promote artists showing at neither this week’s art fair nor fringe, the exhibition is something of a “fringe of the fringe”. It also claims to be “the most affordable art market of the week” and the prices of the work on sale seem to reflect that.
An eclectic mix of well-known artists, outsiders and young new talent show a variety of work from photography and paintings, to inflatable sculptures. There is even a work by world acclaimed visual and performance artist Steven Cohen.
Our inimitable deputy editor, Annemarie Meintjes was particularly charmed by Philippe Bousquet and Ruan Hoffman’s contributions, judging by her tweets.
