Fly your yellow flag

A gala dinner at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town saw the culmination of two fast and furious days in which Cape Town had to impress the judges of the bid for the 2014 World Design Capital.

Among the VIPs that came to give their support was Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who offered the judges “two first-class tickets to heaven” if they pick Cape Town. He added that “it wasn’t a bride since they could only take it up in the afterlife”.

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille also reflected on how the experience made her discover new things about the Mother City.

Cape Town was the last stop for WDC committee members Dilki de Silva and Martin Darbyshire, who will now return to present their findings to the rest of the judging committee.

Now all we can do is hold thumbs that Cape Town worked her magic. Keep flying your yellow flag until 26 October, when the results will be made public!
