Extremism by Tom Dixon

As part of a battle against compromise and the bland, Tom Dixon explores the positive impact Extremist thinking can have on design in his latest book entitled Extremism.

Divided into seven image-led chapters, the book covers a range of interpretations – from Extreme Weight and Extreme Technology to Extreme Simplicity and Extreme Craft. Previously unpublished material reveals the manufacturing processes behind a selection of products.

A Q&A with Tom and design editor Laura Houseley discusses the wider implications for modern-day designers facing the saturated market, and reflects on the issues of copies, manufacturing and distribution.

Each chapter is printed on specifically chosen UPM paper with specially selected ink relating to the contents of each theme. Copper foil blocking and fluorescent inks have been used, demonstrating the scope of collaborator UPM’s extensive portfolio.
