Ed Hodgkinson at Everard Read

English artist Ed Hodgkinson is exhibiting his new large-scale nude paintings at the Everard Read Gallery in Cape Town in May.

His works, although painted with enamel on aluminium, are fundamentally about drawing.

Through the use of an uncomplicated but powerfully descriptive line against a flat backdrop, elements of drawing are visible in each work of art. Spontaneity, simplicity, abbreviation and experimentation are all directly incorporated into his paintings through this technique.

The outcomes are sensual and honest nudes that seem improvised but which are in fact flawlessly refined.
