D’strict’s Anamorphic Illusion

The area of Gangnam-gu in Seoul is South Korea’s first free outdoor display advertisement zone, and is now home to d’strict’s gigantic anamorphic illusion, entitled WAVE.

The team at visual content company d’strict took to creating a massive electronic display on the COEX atrium, a display that is 80 metres in width and 23 metres high. The digital illusion wraps around the exterior of the building, also known as the “mecca of K-pop”.

The anamorphic illusion takes the form of a distorted projection that appears extremely lifelike from certain angles and vantage points. d’strict used this technique to create a huge, moody wave that’s captured and contained within the four walls of the structure.

Adding to the encompassing effect, the installation also plays water sounds, truly bringing the experience to life.
