Founded by designer Sebastián Ángeles in 2016, Dórica balances conceptual and contemporary lines with timeless forms that evoke the natural, sensory qualities of wood.

With a firm focus on respecting natural materials while enhancing their appeal, the brand offers Yakisugi as an exclusive made-to-order finish, expanding its aesthetic repertoire.

Originating in Japan, the Yakisugi technique involves intentionally charring the wood’s surface to increase its resistance to moisture, time, and natural elements. The process, which includes burning, cooling, cleaning, and sealing the wood, results in a richly textured surface and a deep black finish that evokes a sense of sophistication.

For Dórica, adopting this technique is not merely functional but also conceptual. Fire becomes a transformative agent, revealing a new dimension of materiality. The pronounced texture and dark hue of the finish invite each piece to engage with different environments, enhancing both adaptability and personality.

The result is a series of identity-rich objects that celebrate both past and present, while underscoring the value of artisanal processes. | dorica.com.mx
