Design Can Do is a new international social design initiative holding a 36-hour design marathon in Cape Town from 23 to 25 November. Apply before Friday 16 November to participate – just a few seats left.
Started this year by designers in New York, London and Seoul, Design Can Do aims to provide a platform where professionals from various disciplines can contribute to the development of their own society through design thinking. The first design marathon was held in Seoul in August 2012.
Now coming to Cape Town, Design Can Do will focus the issue of space in The Fringe and its potential for social integration through redesigning or reappropriating existing and new structures. Based in Cape Town’s East City, The Fringe is “Africa’s up-and-coming environment for design, media and ICT innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. An urban laboratory in which to test design solutions to our foremost urban challenges.”
Not only designers are invited as organisers hope to entice “engineers, social scientists, business experts, educators and so on”.
