French designer Pierre Frey has traversed the world and explored ancient culture, and now these discoveries have been immortalised in his 2012 print collection. The diverse range printed on quality fabrics will be available locally at Mavromac by the end of the month.
From Chinon’s exotic charm that will seduce any lover of decoration to the more masculine Panerea that evokes sails flapping in the wind during a regatta, the range will make superb upholstery for almost any interior.
It is obvious the new range is heavily influenced by exotic destinations: Africa’s wilderness is referenced in Safari, while Moroccan architecture and paint techniques inspired Palmyre. The ample fruit markets referred to in Le Marche also spark a wanderlust for travel and experience.
Both art and travel are the inspiration behind Gaya, which Pierre Frey says references a set of drawings he bought while shopping in the historic centre of Bangalore.
It is instantly apparent that Leo is inspired by Jackson Pollock artworks, but Pierre says the print also draws on ceramics. Young artist Alizee Freudenthal has also created art for the range – the Playtime print in the Toile de Jouy fabric style is her expression of modern living and fun. Antique artwork by Francois Boucher is referenced in Venus, bringing a dash of Romanticism to the collection.
