Gauteng’s Sandton recently got a massive dose of style through the launch of renowned interior designer David Muirhead’s new space in Parkmore. Named Fine Living, the new “design destination” is a realisation of Muirhead’s long-held dream of owning a retail outlet.

The new space has an exclusive showroom, which features handpicked items including soft furnishings, lighting, artwork, fabrics, and accessories. All the pieces are curated by David, reaping the full benefits of his trusted eye for easy-going glamour. “Our range will evolve constantly, yet our key identity will remain sophisticated and timeless,” promises David.

Fine Living is also an event venue that boasts a variety of stylish spaces. There’s the Westwood, a café/bar chill-out area that takes its decor inspiration from legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Its walls are covered in tartan wallpaper, which contrast beautifully with the space’s hounds-tooth covered chairs and herringbone-style carpet pattern.

Then there’s the ballroom and its adjacent al fresco courtyard, which can be booked for larger events. Due to the building’s proximity to the Sandton CBD, David and his business partner Ian Groves, also saw an opportunity to add a high-tech boardroom for all those NB business meetings.

“That’s the beauty of the venue. You can celebrate an intimate 40^th birthday party, host a private board meeting or hire out the entire pace for a glamorous cocktail event with live music,” says David.
