Cool Spaces: Kat van Duinen’s Flagship Boutique

WORDS Cheri Morris

This September sees the opening of luxury fashion label Kat van Duinen‘s flagship boutique: a space that blurs the line betweens art and fashion.

Located in Cape Town’s coveted Silo District alongside excellent company such as Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, The Silo Hotel and GUILD design gallery to name a few, this eclectic space was designed by Founder Kat van Duinen in partnership with local architect Ivan McCarthy Peens.

A harmonious blend of velvet and concrete, bold art pieces and ambient lighting expresses the core themes behind the Kat van Duinen brand; the result is an interior that is modern, classic and minimalist all at once. By avoiding permanent fixtures, the design of the space allows for fluidity and transition depending on which collection is on display.

This spring sees the launch of the 2017/2018 evening wear collection that embraces the splendour of a Venetian palace of old and encompasses glamourous floor-length gowns, tiered maxi skirts and flirty ruffled shift dresses in jewel tones of honeyed gold, ruby red, emerald green and sapphire blue.
