Designed by dhk, Battery Park is Cape Town’s latest urban park, offering everything from kayak-filled canals and picnic spots to an eco-friendly salon.
Connecting the historical city centre to trendy De Waterkant and the buzzing V&A Waterfront, this expansive park stretches 12 000 m² and offers the community an exciting new hub that comprises meandering canal-side walkways that overlook the city and Waterfront, a concrete skatepark, the Amsterdam Battery Heritage Site, a basketball court, water sports, transport to and from the city via the canal, a picnic area, a children’s play area, a shopping complex, and an entertainment pavilion for performances.
An eclectic harmony of ancient brick and contemporary concrete, steel and stone structures, the park honours Cape Town’s heritage through the incorporation of rear ramparts of the Amsterdam Battery constructed in 1784.
Through dhk’s thoughtful design, the development of the park sees improved pedestrian routes that reconnect the city to the sea while offering a new line of sight between the Battery and the renowned Noon Day gun perched on Signal Hill.
Housed within Battery Park’s shopping complex you’ll also find Meraki Aesthetics, a green-practice salon headed up by businesswomen Leigh O’Connoll and Nadine Adams, that not only promises its guests the ultimate stress-free environment but also to operate as sustainably as possible through the adoption of eco-friendly and water-wise practices. What better place to make home than Battery Park, a structure built in accordance with the Green Star Office Tool, a green rating used for office developments and refurbishments of commercial buildings.
