Cape Town-based artist and designer Daniel Ting Chong has collaborated with fellow Mother City illustrator and designer Jordan Metcalf on this fun Please Please Call Me carpet.

“We wanted to do a fun project centred around changing technology, alienation and internet language,” explains the duo. “This was the first design which reframed the dated ‘Please call me’ as a sardonic attempt at human connection. As with all of our previous collaborations we try to talk about issues we think are important and relevant in a fun, light-hearted way.”
Daniel and Jordan chose to design a carpet in order to explore new creative techniques and come up with a design that worked as both a functional item, as well as a piece of art. The duo were “interested in the juxtaposition of creating soft, organic and inherently imperfect representations of machine-based technology.”

Please Please Call Me is the first carpet in a range of upcoming custom designs, all of which are hand made in Cape Town, from 80% wool and 20% nylon yarn blend. The carpet measures 1200mm x 1800mm and retails at R7 000.
