Colourful Illustrations: Mariana Rio

It comes as no surprise that graphic designer and freelance illustrator Mariana Rio’s imaginative illustrations are award-winning.

Having studied at the University of Porto and the Academy of Fine Arts Wroclaw, Portugal-based Mariana relives her childhood by dreaming up creative narratives, concepts and inventive characters for studios, publishing houses and other creative outlets.

Awarded the Portuguese National Illustration Prize, Mariana makes extensive use of bold primary colours, namely blue and red, giving her work its signature look.

Great news! I’m more than happy because my illustrations for the new book Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas by Machado de Assis (Sexto Piso, 2018) got selected for the Illustrator’s Exhibition at the @bolognachildrensbookfair this year! The book just got to the bookstores in Spain and I can’t wait to have my copies in the mailbox. Thank you Editorial @sextopiso_es for the opportunity!
