On 26 February 2015 the international art cognoscenti will descend on the Mother City for the 3rd annual Cape Town Art Fair.
“Galleries from all over the world will be represented: Italy, Nigeria, London, Nairobi, America, Harare, you name it. They will all be here to attend what is now the leading international art fair on the African continent,” says art fair producer, Liza Dyason.
The fair will occupy three floors at The Avenue, nestled between One&Only Cape Town and the Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront. It will overlook the yacht basin and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. It will also introduce the Art Avenue campus concept that will see it spread across a collection of spaces in addition to The Avenue. The second main venue will be a marquee on the North Wharf next to the Zeitz MOCAA. In between there will be a designated art walk with several public art installations and performances.
“One of the highlights of the art walk will be artist Stephen Hobbs’s Dazzle installation, which will see him deploy smoke, mirrors, light shows and sound effects to transform SAS Somerset, an old military ship at the V&A. It’s going to light up the whole yacht basin area,” adds Liza.
The fair also extends to the Nu Metro Cinema, where five young international curators will put together a visual moving arts festival.
We can’t imagine a better time to be in Cape Town.
The art fair runs from 26 February 2015 to 1 March 2015. Tickets are R80 for adults, R50 for children, and free for under-12s. For more information, visit capetownartfair.co.za.
