It’s time to take revenge on invasive alien vegetation by turning it into furniture for The Western Cape Furniture Design Competition 2012.
This annual competition is now in full swing and entries are open until 30 November 2011.
The initiative aims to promote local designers and manufacturers in the furniture industry by facilitating their creative visions into well-made products that offer excellent commercial and social value.
The theme for 2012 is “Multi-Functional Design for Public Furniture” using invasive alien wood. The judges are looking for ideas that will add value to public space, enhance social interaction, provide visual stimuli while helping to deal with the scourge of alien vegetation. And to sweeten the deal, there are R76 000 worth of prizes to be won.
