Barbarians collection

Thanks to Limeline, South Africans can now get their hands on the striking Barbarians collection of furniture from Italian design house Edra.

Edra is known for their keen sensitivity towards the languages of art, fashion and modern lifestyle, leading to the production of signature pieces that are now icons of contemporary design.

The Barbarians collection sees the introduction of three new designs by the South American design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana.

One of the first new offerings, the Campana lighting sculpture, is constructed from 180 variously shaped pieces of laser-cut, light-weight aluminum. The random assembly of the pieces makes each light absolutely unique.

The innovative Cotto stainless-steel table is inset with eight large, textured chunks of treated terracotta. Each chunk is exclusively hand crafted and individually marked underneath with the words “Made in Italy” and “Hand Made”.Set against the cool of the steel, the terracotta as it is used here is worlds away from its rustic roots.

Alongside these pieces sits the eclectic Cabana storage unit: a simplistic, yet clever aluminum structure that features dangling lengths of raffia.

A few classic pieces have also been given a facelift, now making specific reference to gold, a precious metal dear to the Barbarians.

These include Peter Traag’s Sponge armchair, with its pressed wrinkles that create a unique pattern for each piece, and the Leather Works seat by the Campana brothers, which has been re-upholstered in a special new leather.
