Lulama Wolf’s collaboration with Bang & Olufsen makes her the first black female South African artist in the world to contribute to the brand’s “Art of A9” initiative.
Bang & Olufsen, the iconic Danish audio brand, has collaborated with South African visual artist Lulama Wolf. The collaboration was officially unveiled at 100% Design Africa at Decorex Joburg in early August.
This collaboration marks the first time a South African artist has been invited to create a unique, customised design for the Beosound A9 speaker. Known for her modern neo-expressionist art, Lulama brings a fresh perspective to the Beosound A9 and the “Art of A9” series.
Her work, deeply rooted in the classical themes of art and music, encapsulates the lyrical joy in jazz and the graceful movements of women in dance. “I was looking for simple things that bring you joy in so many ways,” says Lulama. “The femininity in jazz and dance, and the improvisation of its heartbeat, all come together in this piece.”
The “Art of A9” initiative series sees the distinctive circular canvas reinterpreted via a series of highly limited-edition artworks.
A statement in sound and sight, the Beosound A9 is renowned for its exceptional sound quality, sleek design, and advanced technology. Designed with aesthetes and audiophiles in mind, the speaker can be wall-mounted or placed as a freestanding feature piece. Crafted from premium anodised aluminium, Kvadrat fabric and oak, it is a timeless work of art, contributing to its luxurious look and feel.
Internationally, notable collaborations have included works by David Lynch, Stine Goya, Vincent Van Duysen, John Legend, and MonoNeon, each bringing their unique artistic vision to the A9, making it a true collector’s item.
This limited edition Beosound A9, customised by Lulama Wolf, will be auctioned in August 2024. | prestigioplaza.co.za
