Art-collection workshops

Keen to expand your art knowledge in order to start your own art collection? The Visual Arts Network (VANSA) has put together a course that’ll give you the perfect head start.

The course is aimed at nascent collectors and those with a burgeoning interest in art, and will give you a thorough working knowledge of the South African art world as well as the vocabulary and visual literacy to confidently invest in work.

If you’re in it for the pleasure of living with quality art, you’ll discover all the need-to-knows, with an overview of everything from understanding the market through to starting a collection. If your focus is investment, you’ll get all the information you need on how to enhance a collection, how to collect for investment and an introduction to local galleries and young, upcoming artists.

With the intention of increasing confidence amongst potential art buyers, the lectures will, as much as possible, be related to exhibitions and art events taking place in and around Cape Town.

The Collector’s Course will run Monday evenings at VANSA, 8 Spin Street, Cape Town, 17h30-19h00, from 29 August to 31 October. This course will provide participants with a real, tangible grasp and first-hand knowledge of the contemporary art market.

Lectures will be led by VANSA’s curatorial team with city gallerists, artists and auction specialists adding expert opinions. Cost: R2,000 for eight lectures, three optional outings and course materials.
