WORDS Malibongwe Tyilo
The Information Age has certainly simplified our lives. Everything is stored digitally; on a computer or on a handy stick that get smaller as its capacity to store information grows larger. All slick and easy, at our fingertips, but sometimes a little impersonal. Remember the good old days, back when we still stuck messages, reminders and information onto pin boards? Well, pin boards aren’t only back, they’re better! Here at VISI we’re excited about their innovative designs and how they are luring us back into a more tactile interaction with information. From quirky and humorous shapes to a board that is permanently sticky, here are three are our favourite pin boards right now.
Sticky boards by Flowermill
Forget drawing pins and Prestik. The sticky board is exactly what it says it is: sticky, and so it remains, ensuring that the paper you stick on, stays on and when you pull it off, none of the stickiness is left behind. As if that isn’t impressive enough, the board comes in three prints and a variety of colours.

getCork pin boards
We love the quirky shapes these cork boards come in: labradors, chickens, Table Mountain and even the shape of our beloved continent. We imagine we’d have a hard time choosing one, so perhaps we’ll just get a selection of our favourite shapes!

Underfloor felt boards
Then, for all the DIY fanatics out there, felt-covered pinup boards have been popping up everywhere, even as far as at the recent Milan Furniture Fair. They’re simple to make; just get an appropriately sized unfinished board, a piece of underfloor felt, cover the board, secure it with drawing pins or an industrial stapler, and just like that you’ve got yourself a hot new pin board!
