When Dokter and Misses gave me a set of their Lovers platters and bowls, I was overjoyed with the concept of two plates joining to become one, as well as the versatility of the bowls.
The packaging was also far too good to be discarded. It simply had to become a light – my favourite decor item.
To make a light from almost any well-designed packaging, you need:
• 1½ m of electrical cable (2-core 5mm rip-cord, R2,50/m)
• 1 electric plug, R10
• 1 light-bulb holder (5mm), R7
• 1 round 5W energy-saving light bulb, R20
(does not heat up, so is not a fire hazard)
TOTAL COST ± R50
This is how:
1. Make a hole in the centre of the base of the packaging and thread through the electrical cord.
2. Attach a light-bulb holder to the end of the cord inside the packaging.
3. Attach an electric plug to the other end of the cord (as you are using a 2-core cord, ignore the third point of the plug or, alternatively, use a two-point plug).
